CLASS UPDATES

  • 3 Day 3’s – We celebrated the life of Martin Luther King Jr.  by creating a friendship wreath. The children each made hand prints representing different races. We read many books explaining his legacy. Our winter unit continued by reading “All You Need to Build a Snowman” and “Snowmen at Night”. We painted snowflakes using a straw dipped in white paint. The children colored & cut out pictures of a child in the order in which they would be a snowman. On Thursday we painted snowmen using Ivory Snow. Enjoy the weekend!!
  • 4 Day  3’sSnowmen have been our topic this week in the 4 Day 3’s. The children each drew their own snowmen and gave it a red heart like in the book “The Missing Mitten Mystery”. After reading ”Snowmen at Night”, we painted our own snowmen using Ivory Snow powdered detergent (2 parts soap 1 part water). We talked about Martin Luther King Jr. and what a hero is and then made special “Peace” flowers using our own handprints. Next week we will spend time reading and acting out “The Mitten”.
  • 5 Day 4’sDuring this week we concentrated on Dr. King. The children created a “Peacemaker” art activity and shared ideas about how they could bring peace into their world. We learned a peace song in several different languages along with a new winter song. We are continuing to work on our winter habitat animals. Cardinals now reside in our room –next are squirrels!! We have opened our “Construction Zone” in the class room. Lots of tools, books about construction work, pretend painting and hard hats. The children are really enjoying this new area! We have a new friend in our afternoon class. His information went home in the backpacks! The hearing screening is complete and results have been sent home. Another page in our “All About Me” book was finished this week. Please send in the sharing box next Tuesday. Letter of the week “M”.
  • Extended Day 4′sWinter animal week has been filled with fun and creative projects! The animals we introduced to the children are penguins, owls and why we need to help birds during the winter! They loved the story ”A Penguin Who Hated the Cold”(a Disney story), especially when we created our story about why we love the winter weather! Our primary focus this week was using scissors! We cut out the branch for our owl, the body for our paper penguin and the wings for our cool water bottle penguins! The children had so much fun putting the pieces together. Next week, our focus will be the letter “D” and we will discuss Martin Luther King Jr.
