Sports Program:

We also will have sports classes every day with our own Sports Coach Miss Julia Carbone. Miss Carbone is a certified school teacher who has been part of the Enrichment staff since September. She will be incorporating gymnastics, soccer, baseball, basketball, and all the traditional games with props such as the parachute, bean bags, obstacle courses, hopscotch and much more.  She will introduce the children to games with rules, and help improve listening skills, flexibility and coordination.

 

CLASS UPDATES

  • 3 Day 3’s – It’s hard to believe that the school year has come to an end. We’ve had a wonderful time with all of your children. Each child has brought an individual unique quality to make our class fun and successful. They have all grown so much; emotionally and physically. Thank you for entrusting your children with us. We wish everyone a happy & healthy summer!!!
  • 4 Day  3’sOur class has been preparing for Father’s Day. This week we read “Father’s Day” by Mercer Mayer. The children had fun talking about their dads and creating their surprise present for Dad. Enjoy the weekend! Next week we will be celebrating the last day of School!!
  • 5 Day 4’s – End of the year- Can it really be? We are busy, busy, busy! We are collecting all their wonderful books, All About Me, Poetry & Recipe book. Our beans are flowering & we are tasting already. These groups of children in both a.m. & p.m. classes have really fused together with lots of cooperative play, thinking & sharing. They are both very special groups!!!
  • Extended Day 4′s – Our last full week of school has been filled with fun, fun, fun! We learned all about the ocean for letter O and have been preparing for graduation!!! The students had so much fun creating an octopus and their very own fish tank! We also added sand and sea shells into our water table to feel as though we are at the beach! The students loved the story “George’s Store at the Shore” by Francine Bassede, as we added our favorite part from the story to our journals! Let’s see what the letter O turned into this week! CLASS UPDATES

  • 3 Day 3’s – We started our dinosaurs unit! The children have been fascinated, learning about all the different types of dinosaurs and facts. We read “Dinosaurs” by Alastair Smith, “Whatever Happened to the Dinosaurs” and “How Big Were the Dinosaurs” by Bernard Most”. The class sponge painted cut out dinosaurs and glued the frill, horns & eyes on them. We all became paleontologists by gluing pasta (for their bones) on outlines of different dinosaurs.
  • 4 Day  3’sSummer is on it’s way to the 4 day 3’s!! This week we read many books about summer and vacation. The children made chalk drawings of things they wanted to do this summer– they dipped chalk in water to make the colors more vibrant. We created our summer scene on our classroom wall including the ocean and a lighthouse. The children each made their own boats to add to the scene. Next week Fathers Day!
  • 5 Day 4’sWe have put the finishing touches on our “All About Me” and our poetry books. Our discovery table is now filled with sand-great castle building possibilities. The Father’s Day and Grandpa cards, along with our special gifts are nearly complete. Today the delicious scent of homemade pizza, filled the school!! Delizioso! Thank you to Mrs. Madia & all the little chefs. We continue to add soil and plant in our garden, lots of fun-our green beans are now planted in a large container & are winding up the stalks. Bean soup not far away!
  • Extended Day 4′sThis week we talked about community helpers and different jobs we can have when we get older!  During circle time, we created a graph of who wants which job!  We have some future fire fighter, doctors, police officers, and teachers!  As our class project we created a doctor kit!  In our kit we had a tongue compressor, band-aid, and cotton ball!  We used our fine motor skills to cut out each part of the kit!  As a new center, we put our “real” doctors to work as we practiced using doctor tools!  In addition, we read the story “Steam Train, Dream Train” by Sherri Rinker and added it to our journal!  Let’s see what letter X has turned into!  Next week is letter O for Oceans!  Have a good weekend!

CLASS UPDATES

  • 3 Day 3’s – The children had fun creating their Father’s Day gifts & cards. We read “I Love Daddy” by Lizi Boyd & “I Love My Daddy by Sebastian Braun. We finished our flowers by gluing the stigma in the middle and adding leaves & the stem. We read “From Seed to Plant” by Gail Gibbons. The children are very excited about starting the dinosaur unit next week.
  • 4 Day  3’sOh my, oh my, oh dinosaur! We began our dinosaur unit this week by painting Large dinosaurs, palm trees & a volcano to create a prehistoric mural in our classroom. We read many dinosaur books this week including “Dinosaur Bones” by Bob Barner. Our sand table became a dig site where we paleontologists discovered many dinosaur skeletons!
  • 5 Day 4’sWe started off our week making our May flowers out of small pots & origami paper, they look great hanging next to our April umbrella’s! This week we released our butterflies in the tree. The children were amazed to them fly out of there houses! In the butterfly corner we used crayons to rub fantastic pictures of all different insects. We also learned some new games: butterfly dominoes & butterfly bingo, what fun! Each of us got to run on the playground with the butterfly costume, it was so much fun pretending to fly! We’ve been practicing our songs for Family Fun Day & can’t wait to share them on Sunday!
  • Extended Day 4′sThis week was all about plants! Luckily, we were able to make it outside to plant before all the rain!  We planted marigolds, sunflowers, tomatoes, and string beans!  The kids had so much fun getting their thumbs dirty planting the seeds in the soil!  In addition to planting, we discussed the parts of the plants as well as what plants need to grow!  We used our plants stampers to help us label each part! Next week we will be learning about all the different insects that come out during the spring! Our letter of the week will be Q for Queen Bee! Have a good weekend!!

CLASS UPDATES

  • 3 Day 3’s –This week we finished our Mother’s Day presents and cards. We read “My Mother and I” by  Kavanagh and “I Love You All Day Long” by Francesca Rusackas. The children made portfolio’s to put their famous artist pieces in. They will be sent home in  a few weeks. Spring has finally sprung! The children made “Bake & Make Flowers.” We baked Styrofoam cups and magically, the petals unfolded. Each child painted petals  and glued tissue paper in the middle, then added sticks as stems.
  • 4 Day  3’sOur class continued learning about Eric Carle this week. We finished our hermit crabs using bowls as the shell. We talked about the letter “H” for hermit crab. We loved reading “The Grouchy Ladybug” All the children practiced making their grouchiest faces and had their pictures taken. We made our own lady bugs and attached our grouchy faces. They came out adorable! We also made wrapping paper for our Mother’s Day Art.
  • 5 Day 4’sThis week, we completed our Mother’s Day Marigolds & cards, we hope you love them as much as we do!  We have now opened up our butterfly habitat corner. We have puzzles, games & lots of pictures to learn with. Also this week, we moved our butterfly chrysalis into the butterfly houses! Our class has finished drawing our designs for our end of the year plates and can’t wait to see the finished product! We are working on our May project, May will bring flowers. Have a great weekend and looking forward to seeing you at Family Fun Day.
  • Extended Day 4′sWe hope everyone enjoyed our Spring Show and your Mother’s Day gifts!  The children were super excited all week to share with you what we have worked on for so long! CLASS UPDATES

  • 3 Day 3’s –We started our week learning about Jackson Pollack. It was a beautiful day, so we recreated our Pollack masterpiece outside. The canvas was taped to the ground as the children splashed and dripped the paint. It was lots of fun!! We completed our art unit with Vincent van Gogh. The children painted his most famous painting called “The Starry Night”.  We enjoyed getting messy with blue finger paint. The children had a fun time with their “April Showers Bring May Flowers” project. They drew flowers with crayons and then using a scouring sponge dipped in blue paint to create rain. We glued cotton balls on top to create clouds.
  • 4 Day  3’sWhat an exciting week this was in the 4 day threes!!! Jackson Pollock was the final artist we learned about. We has such a great time splattering, dripping and splashing paint on our classes work of art out on the playground. The children worked so hard this week rehearsing for our art show. Thursday’s Famous Artist Show and Exhibit was a huge success!! Thanks to all the parents, grandparents, babysitters and siblings for coming out and celebrating our amazing artists!!!
  • 5 Day 4’sThis week we started off learning about Earth Day. Our class learned all about ways we can help protect the earth by doing our part to keep it clean. We began learning about the life cycle of a butterfly. Each child put a larva into a small cup with caterpillar food. They are growing already!! For “X” week, we have been using a light table to look at xrays of all types of animals. Don’t forget next week is “Z” week.
  • Extended Day 4′sLittle by little our caterpillars are growing! The students are amazed by the life cycle of the butterfly as we watch it day by day. We cannot wait to see the final step emerge! This week we focused on Earth Day as we tied it into our butterfly unit!  We read “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” by Eric Carle and illustrated our favorite part in our journals!  We are continuing to practice for our show as everything is coming together!  The students are excited for you to see what the letter Y has turned into! Next week is K week for kites and other fun spring activities. Have a great weekend!

CLASS UPDATES

  • 3 Day 3’s – The children learned about Claude Monet. We read “Monet’s Impressions” by Claude Monet. They had fun re-creating one of his most famous paintings called “Water Lilies.” It is hanging in MOMA in N.Y.C. We also read “Philippe in Monet’s Garden” by Lisa Jobe Carmack. The children put Philippe  in their own painting. Please practice the art songs at home and have a wonderful vacation.
  • 4 Day  3’sWe began our week talking about Monet and reading “Katie Meets the Impressionist” by James Mayhew. To wish a classmate goodbye as he moves to Japan, we read many books about Japan. The class created their own cherry blossom tree, we made origami dogs and tried candy sushi with chopsticks. Enjoy the week!
  • 5 Day 4’sWe had an exciting week!! When we arrived Monday, we found that are bean stalks had sprouted & grown a few inches tall! Our class painted in a whole new way by shaking popcorn & paint in a ziplock bag. We used the pink colored popcorn to add cherry blossoms to our Spring bulletin board. We added another page to our “All About Me” books, sharing some of our favorite things. In anticipation for the upcoming holidays, we read stories about Passover & Easter! When we return from vacation, it will be X & Y week.   Have a restful & joyous vacation.
  • Extended Day 4′sThis week’s focus was on the two holidays coming up during our break, Easter and Passover!  After reading “Happy Easter, Mother Duck” by Elizabeth Winthrop we used our fine motor skills to cut out our own Easter chicks!  We used colorful tissue paper and construction paper for the project!  They came out really cute!  “A Picture Book of Passover” by David Adler taught us all about the 10 plagues!  We even used our fine motor and excellent listening skills to create one of the plagues to fill our classroom, FROGS!!  The children loved “Let My Babies Go – A Rugrat Passover Story” by Sarah Willson!  They chose their favorite part to added to our journals!!  To finish off the week we had an egg hunt and tried Matzah! Yummy!! We even had an alumni, Harrison Maute, come in and read us a story! Enjoy your break and see you when we return for letter Y week about the yellow sun and Earth Day!

CLASS UPDATES

  • 3 Day 3’s – We continued with our “Art Unit”. The children learned about  Pablo Picasso. We read “ Picasso and the Girl with a Ponytail” by Laurence Anholt. Each child recreated one of his most famous pieces called “Bouquet of Flowers”. We introduced the children to the Passover and Easter holiday. We read “Sammy Spiders First Passover” and let each child taste matzah. Our art project was dipping matzah in paint & making prints on paper. The children enjoyed “Max’s Chocolate Chicken” by Rosemary Wells. They had fun making a cute Easter bunny.
  • 4 Day  3’sThe art museum is under construction is under construction! This week, we learned about Van Gogh (Starry Night) and Seurat whose techniquewas using many dots to create his masterpieces. To begin talking about Passover we read “Sammy Spider’s First Passover”, tasted matzah and made matzah prints by dipping it in paint. Next week: Easter, Monet & learning about Japan as we say goodbye to a friend who is moving back to his home country.
  • 5 Day 4’sWe kicked off this week with our end of the Dr. Seuss unit with a party! V week has been so exciting learning about volcanoes and even creating our own! Every day we have been observing our planted beans which have begun to sprout. We made thumb print crocus on our Spring bulletin board and sang our crocus song! All the children are loving our new moon sand in the exploration table. Don’t forget next week is “W” week.
  • Extended Day 4′sWow! This week was full of science and fun! We discovered all 5 senses, sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste, through different experiments!
    • Sight- We used different color glasses to look and find different objects in the room!  We always played “I Spy” in small groups!!
    • Hearing- We played an interactive game between two teams! We played different sounds for the teams to guess what the sounds was! It ended up as a tie!!
    • Touch- We had a blind touch test experiment! Blind folded, the students had to touch different objects and describe what they were feeling! They then had to do guess what the object was!  This was so much fun!!
    • Smell- With their eyes shut, the students had to smell different spices to see which scent they liked the most and which they liked the least!  Ask the students how they felt about nutmeg!! Seemed to be the number one least liked!
    • Taste- We tasted bananas, raisins, lemons, and pretzels!  Ask your child how their taste experiment went!

    Next week we will be learning about Easter and Passover!  U for Unleavened Bread!  Have a good weekend!

  • 3 Day 3’s – As we continued with our art unit, the children were introduced to the famous artist “Mondrian”. We read “Mouse Paint” by Ellen Walsh and “Ain’t Gonna Paint No More” By Karen Beaumont. They had fun recreating a piece of Mondrian artwork. Spring has finally sprung!!! We added flowers and leaves to our class tree. Have a great weekend!!
  • 4 Day  3’sWe continued our famous artists unit this week and the children are thoroughly enjoying our art projects. Learning about Mondrian and how he used black lines, squares, rectangles and red, yellow and blue to create his masterpieces was something the children loved. Picasso was the second artist this week. We focused on his “Bouquet of Flowers” and each child created his/her own.
  • 5 Day 4’sU” week was an exciting was very exciting. We created umbrella’s that are decorating our classroom now. We began our bean experiment and observed what happened once the beans were soaked in water. After cooking them, we each took a taste! We have now planted our beans and can’t wait to see what happens next! Don’t forget next week is “V” week!!
  • Extended Day 4′sMarch Madness in Extended Day!! This week was a blast learning about not only basketball, but a lot of different sports as well!  We touched upon football, bowling, soccer, tennis, and J for Jockey!!  We used our fine motor skills to cut and draw our footballs and basketballs!! Our gross motor skills came into action as we bowled in the classroom and fun games in the gym!! The children loved the story “Football Friends” by Marzollo as we added our favorite part to our journals for reading  readiness. The students also used their imagination to create their own drawing on sports!! Can’t wait for you to see their wonderful pictures.  Let’s see what our J turns into this week!! CLASS UPDATES

  • 3 Day 3’s – This week we learned about Michelangelo. We read “The Art Lesson” by Tomie dePaola. The songs that we sing about each artist, teach the children interesting facts. Each child pretended to be Michelangelo by drawing a picture laying on their backs underneath a table. They felt very silly and had a lot of fun! Welcome Spring!! We finally took our snowflakes off our classroom tree. The children made tissue paper flowers to replace them. Hopefully this is more than wishful thinking. Save the Date: Famous Artists Show, Tues. April 29th at 10:15a.m.

To introduce the idea that we are all artists, we read “Harold and the Purple Crayon,” created our own Purple wall mural and sculpted with purple play dough. We read “Katie & The Mona Lisa” to talk about Leonardo daVinci and each child had a turn practicing their “Mona Lisa Smiles” while a friend drew them. More artists next week.   • 5 Day 4’sLooking for signs of Spring- We have a new Spring bulletin board! This special St. Pats week included a special snack, a shamrock hunt in the classroom, math games using shamrocks and finally an exciting, mysterious visit from a Leprechaun! Ask your child. I’m sure they would love to tell you what happened. It was a very exciting week. It was fun watching all of you pick out your child’s self portrait. If you haven’t had your conference yet don’t forget to check out the portrait wall when you are here! We created a sunny, Spring art piece by using lovely pastel tissue paper & water. Happy Spring!!
  • Extended Day 4′sLuck of the Irish! This week we learned about all the fun parts of St. Patrick’s Day!  The children created their own beautiful rainbow leading them to the pot of gold!   We also read the story “Lucky Leprechaun” as we created our very own Leprechaun!  Their favorite project of the week was putting together 3 hearts to create a magical Shamrock Wand!  To take a break from St. Patrick’s Day we enjoyed playing BINGO! to focus on letter, numbers, shapes, and color skills! What a fun way to learn!! Next week we will learn about being a Jockey for letter J!! Enjoy the weekend!
